Course Overview
This RSA Online training course is the required course for South Australia (SA) hospitality workers serving alcohol in a hospitality venue. This course provides a nationally recognised SITHFAB021 Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol Statement of Attainment and allows you to work in licensed venues.
This course supercedes and is equivalent to SITHFAB002 Provide responsible service of alcohol course.
- This course is also suitable for international students and other VISA holders. International/Overseas Students on a subclass 500 study visa are now able to undertake a number of Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses with us. This includes the Nationally Accredited units such as SITHFAB021 Provide responsible service of alcohol, SITXFSA005 Use hygienic practices for food safety, SITXFSA006 Participate in safe food handling practices and our First Aid units of competency. You can find out more information on the Department of Education, Skills and Employment website.

All students undertaking accredited training in Australia require a USI number. Your personal information entered for your USI must exactly match the details in your training account with us. Click here to create your USI.

Can I get my RSA SA online?
The RSA SA Online is available in most states. This is the course for SA residents. There is a separate online RSA for NSW residents ,RSA for ACT residents and other states. The RSA course can be completed in the comfort of your own home. It is a fully accredited online course, fast, self-paced, and available 24/7 for your convenience online.
How long does it take to complete?
For most Australian States and Territories students take approx. 4 – 6 hours to complete their RSA SA online training. Once completed, you will usually receive your statement of attainment via email on the same business day. You must have uploaded your assessment/s by 4pm Queensland time on a business day (Monday – Friday), as they need to be marked as competent by one of our trainers and assessors.
When will I receive my RSA SA?
When your assessment has been marked as competent by one of our assessors, and you have successfully completed your RSA online training, you will be issued with your nationally recognised Statement of Attainment via email.
How long is my RSA SA valid for?
There is currently no expiry date for the RSA valid in SA. The nationally accredited online training offered by CTA Training Specialists is approved and nationally recognised.
Who needs an RSA in SA?
If you want to work and serve alcohol in a licenced venue, you MUST have a valid RSA SA certificate. Any individual who is involved with the sale, supply or service of alcohol in licensed premises is required, by law in Australia, to hold a valid RSA certificate.

How long do I have to finish my online course?
- From the time of enrolment, you have three (3) months to complete your online training course.
- There are no refunds if you do not complete the course within the time frame given.
- Please allow approximately four (4) to six (6) hours to complete your online training course.
- You can login as many times as required to complete the course, your progress will be saved each time.

The Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) course covers the following elements as essential outcomes of this unit of competency. Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element.
Elements and Performance Criteria
Element 1
Sell or serve alcohol responsibly.
- Sell or serve alcohol according to provisions of relevant state or territory legislation, licensing requirements and responsible service of alcohol principles.
- Where appropriate, request and obtain acceptable proof of age prior to sale or service.
- Provide accurate information to customers on alcoholic beverages according to organisation or house policy and government legislation.
- Assist customers with information on the range of non-alcoholic beverages available for purchase.
- Identify issues related to the sale or service of alcohol to different types of customers, especially those at risk, and incorporate them into sales or service.
Element 2
Assist customers to drink within appropriate limits.
- Prepare and serve standard drinks or samples according to industry requirements and professional standards.
- Use a professional manner to encourage customers to drink within appropriate limits.
- Recognise erratic drinking patterns as an early sign of possible intoxication and take appropriate action.
- Monitor emotional and physical state of customers for signs of intoxication and effects of illicit or other drug use.
- Where appropriate, offer food and non alcoholic beverages.
- Decline requests for alcohol to be dispensed in a manner that is irresponsible and advise customers of the reasons for the refusal.
Element 3
Assess alcohol affected customers and identify customers to whom sale or service must be refused.
- Assess intoxication levels of customers using appropriate methods.
- When assessing intoxication, take into account factors that may affect individual responses to alcohol.
- Identify customers to whom sale or service must be refused according to state and territory legislation.
Element 4
Refuse to provide alcohol.
- Refuse sale or service in a professional manner, state reasons for the refusal, and where appropriate point out signage.
- Provide appropriate assistance to customers when refusing service.
- Where appropriate, give customers a verbal warning and ask them to leave the premises according to organisation or house requirements, the specific situation and provisions of state or territory legislation and regulations.
- Use appropriate communication and conflict resolution skills to handle difficult situations.
- Refer difficult situations beyond the scope of individual responsibility to the appropriate person.
- Promptly identify situations that pose a threat to the safety or security of colleagues, customers or property, and seek assistance from appropriate colleagues according to organisational policy.
Each State in Australia has its own legislation governing liquor licensing and responsible service of alcohol.This RSA course meets the requirements of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and is recognised by the following State Government Liquor Licensing Authorities:
You will receive a nationally accredited RSA that’s valid in the above States ONLY.Your SITHFAB002 Statement of Attainment will not expire, however you may wish to complete refresher training to ensure you maintain your knowledge.
After successful completion of this course we provide you with a nationally recognised SITHFAB002 Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol. The Australian Quality Framework (AQF) is the national set of standards which assures nationally consistent, high-quality training and assessment services for the clients of Australia’s vocational education and training system.

- For Australia Residents there are no pre-requisites

We use the following assessment tools to determine a student’s competence.
- Knowledge checks that require the student to select the correct answer/s from multiple choice questions
- Knowledge checks that require the student to respond by selecting True or False
- Knowledge checks that require the student to select all correct answers (multiple choice)
- Online Assessment in which you are required to answer ALL questions correctly.
- Video assessment, where the student must demonstrate their competency in response to video scenarios, providing the correct responses when refusing service of alcohol
- To complete the video assessment we recommend the use of a smartphone with video capabilities or webcam.
- Please ensure you record in the lowest resolution possible to maintain a small file size
To complete this online course you will require:
