The NSW RSA Online course is a mandatory requirement for anyone in NSW wanting to work with the supply, service or sale of alcohol. CTA Training Specialists provides same-day interim RSA certificates to students who complete the course and submit their assessment before 4pm AEST Monday-Friday.

Course Overview
This RSA online course is for those wanting to work with the sale, service or supply of alcohol in NSW. CTA Training Specialists is a NSW Liquor and Gaming approved training provider.
On completion of this course, students will be provided with an interim certificate that can be used to apply for the competency card and work in the sale, service or supply of alcohol for up to 90 days from completion of the course.
This course supercedes and is equivalent to SITHFAB002 Provide responsible service of alcohol course.

Your USI Number
All students undertaking accredited training in Australia require a USI number. Your personal information entered for your USI must exactly match the details in your training account with us. Click here to create your USI.

How do I get my RSA in NSW?
- Complete your RSA online training.
- Receive your RSA Interim Certificate.
- Gather your original identity documents.
- Visit a service centre to have your photo taken and submit your application.
How long is RSA NSW valid for?
5 years
When do I have to renew? Your interim certificate is valid for 5 years, however, you can only work for 90 days before you will need the competency card. This means you can work purely on your interim certificate for those 90 days but after the 90th day you will need to have your competency card to work.
Is my RSA valid in NSW?
If you have an RSA Statement of Attainment from another Australian State or Territory you may be eligible to complete the L&G RSA NSW Bridging course. For more information on the course and how to apply visit Liquor and Gaming NSW.
Can you use NSW RSA in Qld?
NSW issued RSA competency card is valid in NSW only. However, on the day of training you would have received a Statement of Attainment which is recognised in some Australian states and territories (such as Northern Territory, Western Australia, South Australia, Queensland).
Does an RSA expire?
All NSW RSA’s will expire every 5 years and a new accreditation will be required.
Can I use my NSW RSA in ACT?
Yes, the ACT recognises current RSA certificates issued by course providers operating in other Australian jurisdictions. The RSA must be issued by a registered training provider that is approved under another Australian state or territory law (relating to the supply or consumption of liquor) to provide RSA training.

How long do I have to finish my online course?
- From the time of enrolment, you have three (3) months to complete your online training course.
- There are no refunds if you do not complete the course within the timeframe given.
- Please allow approximately four (4) to six (6) hours to complete your online training course.
- You can login as many times as required to complete the course, your progress will be saved each time.

The Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) course covers the following elements as essential outcomes of this unit of competency. Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element.
Elements and Performance Criteria
Element 1
Follow the principles of responsible service of alcohol
- Identify the provisions of relevant state or territory legislation, licensing requirements, house policy and responsible service of alcohol principles.
- Where appropriate, request and obtain acceptable proof of age prior to sale or service.
- Provide accurate information to customers on alcoholic beverages according to organisation or house policy and government legislation.
- Assist customers with information on a range of non-alcoholic beverages available for purchase.
- Identify issues related to the sale or service of alcohol to different types of customers, especially those at risk.
Element 2
Assist customers to drink within appropriate limits.
- Use knowledge of industry requirements and professional standards to determine the volume for standard drinks or samples.
- Use a professional manner to encourage customers to drink within appropriate limits.
- Identify erratic drinking patterns as an early sign of possible intoxication and take appropriate action.
- Monitor emotional and physical state of customers for signs of intoxication and signs of illicit or other drug use.
- Where appropriate, offer food and non-alcoholic beverages in accordance with house policy.
- Decline requests for alcohol to be dispensed in a manner that is irresponsible and advise customers of the reasons for the refusal
Element 3
Assess alcohol affected customers and identify those to whom sale or service must be refused
- Assess intoxication levels of customers using appropriate methods.
- Identify factors that may affect individual responses to alcohol.
- Identify customers to whom sale or service must be refused according to state and territory legislation.
Element 4
Refuse to provide alcohol.
- Refuse sale or service in a professional manner, state reasons for the refusal, and where appropriate point out signage.
- Provide appropriate assistance to customers when refusing service.
- Where appropriate, give customers a verbal warning and ask them to leave the premises according to organisational or house requirements, the specific situation, and provisions of state or territory legislation and regulations.
- Use appropriate communication and conflict resolution skills to handle difficult situations.
- Refer difficult situations beyond the scope of own responsibility to the appropriate person.
- Promptly identify situations that pose a threat to the safety or security of colleagues, customers or property, and seek assistance from appropriate colleagues according to organisational or house policy.
Each State in Australia has its own legislation governing liquor licensing and responsible service of alcohol. This RSA course meets the requirements of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and is recognised by the following State Government Liquor Licensing Authorities:
- Queensland (QLD): Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation (OLGR)
- New South Wales (NSW)
- Australian Capital Territory (ACT)
- Western Australia (WA)
- Northern Territory (NT)
- South Australia (SA)
You will receive a nationally accredited RSA that’s valid in the above States ONLY. In New South Wales, you must renew your RSA qualification and competency card every five (5) years.
After successful completion of this course we provide you with a nationally recognised SITHFAB021 Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol. The Australian Quality Framework (AQF) is the national set of standards which assures nationally consistent, high-quality training and assessment services for the clients of Australia’s vocational education and training system.

- For Australian Residents, there are no pre-requisites
- International/Overseas Students (including those on a subclass 500 study visa) are able to undertake a number of Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses with us. This includes the Nationally Accredited units such as SITHFAB021 Provide responsible service of alcohol, SITHGAM022 Provide responsible gambling services, SITXFSA005 Use hygienic practices for food safety, SITXFSA006 Participate in safe food handling practices and our First Aid units of competency. We use the following assessment tools to determine a student’s competence.
- Knowledge checks that require the student to select the correct answer/s from multiple choice questions
- Knowledge checks that require the student to respond by selecting True or False
- Knowledge checks that require the student to select all correct answers (multiple choice)
- Online Assessment in which you are required to answer ALL questions correctly.
- Video assessment, where the student must demonstrate their competency in response to video scenarios, providing the correct responses when refusing service of alcohol
- To complete the video assessment we recommend the use of a smartphone with video capabilities or webcam.
- Please ensure you record in the lowest resolution possible to maintain a small file size
To complete this online course you will require:
- A unique email address not previously used by another student
