About

The Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements (BAC) scheme is designed to support economic recovery from COVID-19. This package provides support for businesses to take on more Apprentices and Trainees. This includes Permanent Part-Time, Full-Time and School-Based Apprentices and Trainees. 
For e.g. they could be undertaking a SIT30816 Certificate III in Commercial Cookery, BSB30120 Certificate III in Business or SIT30616 Certificate III in Hospitality through to a SIT40416 Certificate IV in Hospitality or a SIT50416 Diploma in Hospitality Management level qualification with CTA Training Specialists. 

Who

Employers of any industry or size are eligible for a subsidy of up to 50% of the Australian Apprentice’s or Trainee’s gross wage paid. The wage subsidy is available for a maximum of $7,000 per quarter per eligible Australian Apprentice or Trainee (for up to a 12-month period).
Payments will be made in arrears for each quarter. This is available to new and re-engaging Apprentices and Trainees.

When

This has just been extended! 
An apprentice or trainee must be engaged between the 5th October 2020 to the 30th June 2022.  

Existing Workers – Updated Information 28 October 2020

From 28 October 2020, an employer, or host employer (if using a Group Training Organisation), will be eligible for the subsidy for up to 30 existing worker commencements when:

  • an existing worker transfers from a casual employment arrangement to either a part-time or full-time Australian Apprenticeship; or
  • an existing worker transfers from a part-time employment arrangement to a full-time Australian Apprenticeship.

There will be no changes for commencements of existing workers in trade-based Australian Apprenticeships.

Additional Information

  • Your Australian Apprentice or Trainee is undertaking a Certificate II or higher qualification, and has a training contract that is formally approved by the state training authority.
  • The subsidy is not available for any apprentice receiving any other form of Australian Government wage subsidy e.g. Supporting Apprentices and Trainees or JobKeeper.
