It’s a wrap for the COVID Class of 2021 Hostplus Leadership Institute

It was a slightly different program for our amazing graduates this time around as we all navigated the COVID pandemic with work, training and life balance and built up our virtual skills over the past 18 months.

Above all else it has been an exciting period for all involved and we finally had the opportunity to celebrate together with our 9 rising stars and their managers alongside our sponsors, alumni and representatives from Clubs Queensland at the Tattersall’s Club on Friday, 3rd September.

One of the graduates Katie Young, Human Resource Manager at Tewantin Noosa RSL Club described her experience:

“I’ve been in the industry for over 18 years now and completing the Hostplus Leadership Program was a great way to challenge myself to something new whilst also being able to meet and network with some other like-minded individuals and businesses in the industry.

The training and information in the course content were of a high standard and although we all went through a pandemic, CTA were very supportive and always there for us.

Thanks to COVID, we were unable to meet a lot of the sponsors and those involved in making the Hostplus Leadership Program work, but I would like to personally thank them all.

The program has allowed me to build confidence in myself as a fresh HR Manager who only knew Accounting up until 4 years ago.”

Special thanks must be given to our amazing sponsors; naming rights sponsor Hostplus, founding sponsors Carlton & United Breweries, Coca-Cola Amatil, CTA Training Specialists, DWS Hospitality Specialists and the Australian Club Management Institute, who collectively, have made this amazing program a reality, regardless of pandemic conditions this time around for our amazing participants.  We are proud to say that many of the sponsors have supported this program since its inception in 2002 and are committed to ensuring ongoing support well into the future.

Our 9 proud graduates for 2021 include:

  • Nik Mundy, Duty Manager at Blue Fin Fishing Club
  • Vanessa Spiridonov, Senior Duty Manager at Brothers Leagues Club Townsville
  • Anthony Gavin, Executive Chef at Caboolture Sports Club
  • Jaimi Peacock, HR & Senior Duty Manager at CSi Club Southport

  • Tarrah Travers-Smith, Duty Manager at North Lakes Sports Club
  • Katie Young, Human Resource Manager at Tewantin Noosa RSL Club

We presented two very special awards on the night, the Passion for the Industry Award sponsored by CTA Training Specialists which was awarded to Sharni Mott and the John Dickson Future Leader Award sponsored by DWS Hospitality Specialists which Vanessa Spiridonov was the proud recipient of this year.

The night also saw the next 13 leading managers inducted into the Leadership program.  We cannot wait to see them progress, grow and excel through their 12 – 18 month program which is soon to commence!
