RCG Course NSW

*Upon completion of this course you will be issued a Statement of Attainment from CTA Training Specialists. We will lodge the course with L&GNSW, within a few minutes you will receive an email with a link to access your assessment. If you have also provided a mobile number when enrolling in the course, you will also be sent an SMS with a link to access the assessment. Once you successfully complete the RCG online assessment, you will instantly receive your interim certificate via email.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you currently hold a NSW Competency Card for RCG or have been issued an interim certificate for RCG in the last 5 years, please read the section ‘NSW RCG Competency Card’ below.

NSW RCG for International students and Visa holders

Visa holders and international students (including subclass 500) can undertake this course through CTA Training Specialists. You will require a USI to receive your Statement of Attainment. If you don’t already have one, you can apply for one here.

The key learning outcomes for the nationally recognised SITHGAM002 Provide responsible gambling services are:

Implement responsible gambling practices

• Follow responsible gambling service procedures according to relevant state and territory legislation and industry and organisational policy and codes of conduct.
• Communicate with appropriate personnel on gambling related incidents, situations and their compliance with legislation and industry and organisational policy.
• Maintain accurate records of gambling related incidents and associated staff action according to industry and organisational policies and procedures.
• Ensure gambling environmental features support responsible gambling policies within scope of own responsibility.

Provide information and assistance to customers about gambling harm and harm minimisation.

• Provide accurate and appropriate information on impacts of harm from gambling and gambling harm minimisation and reduction.
• Follow procedures for self exclusion and exclusion according to legislation, industry and organisational policy, and confidentiality and privacy requirements.
• Display signage and information related to responsible gambling in appropriate places visible to players, according to legislative, industry and organisational requirements.
• On request, provide information on available support services according to confidentiality and privacy requirements, and legislative, industry and organisational requirements.

RCG Requirements in NSW

Who requires an RCG in NSW?

In New South Wales, the following people are expected to have a valid RCG Competency Card or Interim Certificate:

• Licensees with a full hotel licence
• Secretaries of a registered club
• Staff with gaming machines (pokies)
• Staff who pay out winnings
• Staff who patrol or serve in an area where gaming machines (pokies) are present

NSW RCG Competency Card

NSW provides the one Competency Card for RSA and RCG. If you already have a NSW RSA competency card, on completion of your RCG course you will automatically be sent a new card with your updated competencies.

Note: in NSW all competencies must expire on the same date, calculated five years from the first competency gained e.g. if your RSA competency expires in June 2023, even if you gain your RCG competency in June 2020 both competencies will still have an expiration date of June 2023. This ensures all your competencies are current and expire on the same date.

If you are due for a RSA renewal, we recommend first completing that and then doing the RCG course. That way your RCG remains valid for as close to 5 years as possible.

If you don’t currently have an RSA Competency Card, you may require both RSA and RCG for your role. If so, then you can complete both courses with CTA and save $20. View our RSA RCG bundle for more information.

If you only require your RCG Competency Card, then this is the course for you. Upon completion, you will receive a Statement of Attainment from us. Additionally, we let Liquor & Gaming NSW know that you have completed the RCG course and they will send you an additional assessment that needs to be completed prior to receiving your Interim Certificate.

This Interim Certificate is valid for 90 days can be used to get your Competency Card from your local NSW Services centre.

RCG Refresher in NSW

You are required to refresh your skills at least every 5 years. 

If you don’t already have a competency card, your new one will be valid for 5 years. 

If you do have a competency card, then you will need to refresh your RCG course when your current card expires.

Redoing the RCG course through an RTO will not renew your competency card.

Using an interstate RSG in NSW

CTA Training Specialist is an approved RCG training provider in NSW. By completing the course with us you will get an official Statement of Attainment and access to the L&GNSW RCG online assessment to receive the Interim Certificate from L&G NSW.
