The licensee training course is designed for licensees, approved managers, and club secretaries to ensure they understand their responsibilities and obligations according to NSW Liquor laws. This training aims to ensure that these individuals have the necessary skills and resources to manage alcohol-related harm better and provide a more secure hospitality scene.

^upon completing the course, you will receive an Interim Certificate from Liquor & Gaming NSW. You must take this interim certificate to your local Services centre to get your competency card photo updated and be issued with a new competency card. Completing this course automatically renews your current RSA for another five years.
From 1 July 2024, former licensees with a licensee endorsement expiry date within the last 3 years will now be able to renew their Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) and Licensee Training (LT) endorsement by completing Licensee Training only. Once the Licensee Training course is completed, you will be required to attend a ServiceNSW centre in person to complete a new proof of identity, where your RSA endorsement will also be renewed.

The licensee training course is a requirement for all licensees, approved managers and club secretaries of venues classified as Tier 1 licenses. This includes the following license types:
If you are applying for a new liquor licence, you must ensure you have completed your RSA and Licensee Trainee (if relevant to your type of liquor licence).
If applying to transfer a liquor licence, you must complete your Licensee training and/or advanced licensee training within 60 days of receiving provisional approval.
If appointing an approved manager or club secretary, that person must complete their Licensee and/or approved licensee training within 60 days of applying with Liquor & Gaming NSW.
Interstate workers looking to become licence holders, approved managers or club secretaries with a valid RSA certificate can skip the RSA bridging course if they complete their Licensee Training.

Your Licensee Training is valid for five years.
Completing your licensee training renews your RSA competency but not your RCG competency.
If you hold an RCG Competency Card and want to keep it valid, you must complete the RCG refresher within 90 days before enrolling in a Licensee Training course.
Interstate workers with an appropriate RSA qualification looking to become licensees, approved managers or club secretaries in NSW, or simply wishing to upskill, can skip the NSW RSA Bridging course and simply complete Licensee Training to gain both their NSW RSA and Licensee Training competencies.
Appropriate interstate RSA qualifications include:
a national RSA statement of attainment or RSA refresher certificate from Victoria, the Northern Territory, or the Australian Capital Territory, issued within the last three years, or
a national RSA statement of attainment from South Australia, Western Australia, Queensland, or Tasmania, issued within the last five years.
You are required to refresh your Licensee Training every five years. The refresher training has to be done with L&G NSW. Completing a refresher course through an RTO will not renew your competency card.
Three months before your competency card expires, you will receive an SMS with a link to the refresher course from L&G NSW.
Completing the refresher course will renew your RSA but not your RCG competency. To maintain your RCG endorsement, you must complete your RCG refresher course prior to your competency expiry date.
You must only undertake your LT course through a training organisation approved by Liquor & Gaming NSW (L&GNSW).

Licensee Training Course Handbook
The NSW Licensee training course is required for most licensees, approved managers and club secretaries of venues with a Tier 1 licence.
CTA Training Specialists charge $300 for Licensee Training. This includes the cost of the competency card. The course breakdown is as follows:
Your Licensee Training Competency Card is valid for five years.
You will receive an SMS from L&G NSW with access to the refresher course three months before it expires.
No, your Licensee Training is only valid in NSW and cannot be used in other states.
