James Bartosek is Evolving his Career Through Training

For over 10 years, James Bartosek has been kicking professional goals through training, starting with us way back in 2012 with a school based Certificate III in Hospitality traineeship through Nambour RSL when he was studying at Nambour State College, to now being a part of our 2022/2023 Leadership Institute crew while working at Hervey Bay RSL.

James shared his thoughts on his time with his school-based traineeship with us,

‘It was a great experience, filled with theory that would back my work activities, enabled me to enter the workforce with a great support system, enabled me to earn and also learn at the same time and gave me a competitive advantage compared to others my age. At the end it also gave me the opportunity to get employed at the Nambour RSL earning a good wage for my age”

What inspired you to move into the hospitality industry?

I’ve always been passionate about providing a fun and safe atmosphere for people to come and enjoy themselves for a time of leisure. Giving people an opportunity to relax and enjoy their time within the Club I’m working in.

What has been your favourite part of undertaking your Diploma of Leadership and Management course with the Leadership Institute?

I think I can speak for a lot of the current alumni is that one of the best aspects of the Leadership Institute course is the friendships and networking opportunities provided.  We are privileged to be able to spend time with other venues, their General Managers and sponsors and gain valuable insights into this industry and learn and grow from these experiences ourselves. Talking to past participants, they also agree that this is one of the most important aspects of the course and a rare opportunity.

I am no doubt very grateful to have been given this opportunity to undertake the Diploma level training as it wouldn’t be possible without the support of my employer, the sponsors and CTA Training.  I know that I will learn and develop additional skills and knowledge from this program that will transfer across to my current role and assist with my overall career development.

What piece of advice would you give businesses looking to support an employee in their hospitality education?

Invest in your staff and they will invest in your business and its future. Supporting a selected staff member will boost morale and work performance as they will understand that their efforts do not go unnoticed and will aim to succeed not only professionally but also for the benefit of the business.
