This qualification provides a pathway to work in many tourism industry sectors and for a diversity of employers including tour operators, inbound tour operators, visitor information centres, holiday parks and resorts, attractions, cultural and heritage sites, and any small tourism business
You can continue your studies through the following qualifications:
- SIT40422 Certificate IV in Hospitality to expand on your existing hospitality capabilities and learn crucial skills in people management, conflict resolution and work health and safety resolution.
- SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management to work as a manager within the industry.
- SIT40122 – Certificate IV in Travel and Tourism to expand your skills and become a supervisor.
- SIT50122 – Diploma of Travel and Tourism Management to work as a travel and tourism industry manager.
Credit Transfer/ Recognition of Prior Learning
You can transfer credits to this qualification if you have completed any of the core or elective units through other RTOs or previous qualifications. CTA does not charge fees for transferring credits. CTA also offers recognition of prior learning (RPL) for specific units (Not available for school based traineeships). Vet Investment (Certificate 3 Guarantee):
- Non Concessional $199.00 ($13.27 per unit to be completed)
- Concessional $99.50 ($6.64 per unit to be completed)
User Choice (Traineeship):
- School-based traineeship: Approx $750 – $1,000
- Non-school-based traineeship: Approx $1000 based on $1.60 per nominal hour for each unit of competency.
Fee for Service: $4,500 ($285 per unit to be completed)
Eligibility Criteria
VET Investment – Certificate 3 Guarantee
The Certificate 3 Guarantee program helps eligible individuals complete their first post-school Certificate III qualification.
Eligibility and Concessions
To be eligible, the student must be:
- A Queensland resident. (Evidence: Drivers Licence, Adult Proof Of Age Card, Concession / Health Care Card)
- 15 years or older and no longer at school. (Evidence: Drivers Licence, Adult Proof Of Age Card, Birth Certificate Of Extract, Passport)
- An Australian or New Zealand citizen, Australian permanent resident, or a temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits. (Evidence: Birth Certificate Of Extract, Passport, Green Medicare Card)
- Not already hold or be enrolled in a Certificate III level or higher qualification (excluding school qualifications and foundational skills training).(Evidence: AISS Search)
For concessional status, students must
- Hold a Health Care or Pensioner, Concession Card, or is the partner or a dependant of a person who holds a Health Care or Pensioner Concession Card and is named on the card. (Evidence: Copy Of The Card)
- Identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. (Evidence: Identified on The Enrolment Form)
User Choice
The User Choice program provides public funding for eligible Queensland apprentices and trainees to help cover the cost of training and assessment services. The program allows apprentices, trainees, and employers to choose their preferred registered training organisation (RTO). Training providers must be approved by the department as a Skills Assure Supplier (SAS) to deliver the eligible qualifications under this funding. Students only pay for the number of units they complete as CTA Training Specialists do not charge for credit transfers.
Partial Exemptions
60% reduction in fees are available for those who are either:
- The participant holds a Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card issued under Commonwealth law, or is the partner or a dependant of a person who holds a Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, and is named on the card. (Evidence: copy of health care card)
- The participant is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. (Evidence: stated on the training contract (SRTO) and enrolment form)
Fee For Service Training
Fee For Service Training is for students who are not eligible for government funding. Students only pay for the number of units they complete as CTA Training Specialists do not charge for credit transfers. There are no entry requirements for a Level 3 Certificate in Tourism. You can enter the course without having studied tourism before, and you don’t need to have industry experience, either. However we recommend that you gain some work experience in the tourism or hospitality sectors before you begin your studies.
