Course Overview
Developed in partnership with Club Governance, our Board Governance 101 Essentials series provide an overview of the main responsibilities and concerns faced by committees of clubs without liquor and gaming, sports clubs, co-operative groups and community led initiatives. This module establishes the foundational principles of corporate governance, clarifying the legal transition from an unincorporated group to an Incorporated Association and the protective frameworks this provides. You will explore the specific statutory roles of the President, Secretary, and Treasurer, while reinforcing the critical fact that financial oversight and fiduciary duties (including acting with care, diligence, and good faith) remain a collective responsibility of the entire board. It also provides a vital roadmap of your compliance obligations, ranging from workplace health and safety and child protection to the rigorous demands of liquor, gaming, and AML/CTF regulations. By the end of this session, you will be equipped to ensure your organisation’s systems are not only up to date but also strictly aligned with its constitutional objects and legal requirements.
