What is The RLMV Course and What Does It Entail?

Working in the state of Queensland as a licensed manager for an alcohol-serving business comes with requirements. One of these requirements is the RMLV course training and certification. What is the RMLV training, and what does it entail?

RMLV is short for Responsible Management of Licensed Venues, which is an OLGR approved training course.  Other states such as NSW have specific stipulations for their respective RMLV course. In Queensland, the RMLV certification is valid for three years, after which the certificate holder is required to undertake the RMLV course again and renew their certification.

The RMLV QLD training course can be accessed through approved Registered Training Organisations, or RTOs, that can be found throughout the state. The training course is completed in one day, through face-to-face or RMLV online delivery, and the certification is issued following the course date.

Once the RMLV training has been completed, the certification will be valid within the state of Queensland state for three years. After these three years, the certification expires and will need to be renewed.

To wit, the RMLV training is a requirement based on the Liquor Act 1992 and Liquor Regulations 2002. The two pieces of legislation primarily aim to limit alcohol-related incidents, which cost the country millions annually in property damage, insurance payouts, and worker non-productivity.  With this in mind, RMLV training is intended for people looking to get the Queensland Approved Manager (Liquor) Licence.

The RMLV is paired with Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) training; approved RTOs integrate the RSA training with RMLV courses, meaning that those who do not have RSA training beforehand don’t need to take a separate RSA course. However, those who only have the RSA training will be required to upskill to the RMLV training course if they intend to work as managers of a business that serves alcohol.

Managers looking to get liquor licences for their businesses are also encouraged to take up the RMLV training and certification to be made aware of the legislative framework involved in liquor licensing.

There are many knowledge bases that the RMLV covers during training. The first of these knowledge bases covers licensing laws, including regulations and ordinances as fits the state. The RMLV training also includes the signs of intoxication, how to adequately assess for such instances, and the steps and processes a manager can implement with regard to the refusal of service for intoxicated persons.

The goal of the RMLV certificate is to impart a sense of responsibility in the licensee, and managers responsible for the operation of the venue.  In establishing responsibility among licensed managers, the RMLV training aims to increase excellence among the hospitality industries, particularly the sectors that involve the service of alcohol in their business operations.

The course training for RMLV is highly educational. For those who are curious with the course, consider getting in touch with CTA Training Specialists about enrolling in an RMLV course today.
