What does this mean for your workplace?
Recent developments in legislation have removed the need for Workplace Health & Safety Officers (WHSOs) and introduced a recommendation for workplaces to engage Health and Safety Advisors.
All workplaces should have a trained and experienced Health and Safety Advisor.
For exisiting certified WHSOs
If you have someone who is a certified WHSO, they will need to simply complete a two-day bridging* course to get up to speed on the changes and will receive a Nationally Recognised Certificate IV in OHS.
*Available for a limited time only! – Bridging courses are only available until December 2012 after which time prospective Health and Safety Advisors will need to complete the full 5 day course.
For workplaces without a WHSO
If your workplace does not have anyone that is a certified WHSO, a nominated person should complete the full Nationally Recognised Certificate IV in OHS. This can be done in a variety of ways;
- classroom, 5 day block training plus workplace assignment
- traineeship, for students eligible for Government funding trained over a 12 month period
- online, self-paced training for those with basic computer skills, and
- blended learning, combine online training with limited one-on-one visits by our trainer.
