Great customer service in LA

Customer-service-excellence.jpegHere we are in the USA attending the Global Gaming Expo 2012 (G2E).  G2E is the world’s premier casino-entertainment event where gaming executives and buyers meet in Las Vegas to see the most in-depth source of new products, learn the latest information and networking.

G2E is organised by the American Gaming Association (AGA) represents the commercial casino-entertainment industry by addressing federal legislative and regulatory issues. The AGA membership includes 150 casinos, approximately two-thirds of the commercial casino industry, with 255K+ employees.

Since arriving in the country, we have received great customer service wherever we have been. In Vegas, whilst the coffee was not the best, the service was friendly and interactive. At the Morongo Hotel, everything from our check in, to the buffet, to the gaming floor was superb. Nothing is too much trouble, and the staff genuinely seem to want you to have a great time.

Danny and I have discussed the differences between our own service standards in Australia and those we are experiencing in LA and Las Vegas, and they do at times seem poles apart.

Is it the fact that these staff have to work harder because the wage is less than $5 per hour? Realistically we have left a tip everywhere we have gone, not because of their low wage, but because we genuinely wanted to.

At dinner last night, the first thing to happen to me was have three beers spilled over me by our waiter. The genuine embarrassment of Colin our staff member, excellent follow up to get me towels, check I was ok, offer to dry clean my clothes, get me a spare shirt,  replace our beers beer as quickly and comp us entrees, was so refreshing. We were with clients, and even they commented on how good our waiter Colin was at his job.

Something else at dinner surprised me. No name badges. However, the first words out of Colin’s mouth were, “Hi my name is Colin, and I will be looking after you tonight, have a great time …” as he handed our menus out.

Great service, great ambiance and great company. Now if we could only find a good coffee …
