Gaming Community Benefit Fund

Responsible Service of GamblingWhen we think of gambling, we don’t consider that there could be beneficial outcomes from it. We quickly think of all the negatives that are associated. So are there really are any positives? Well, actually the truth is – there is. The benefit of gambling is the Gambling Community Benefit Fund that has been established under the Gaming Machine Act 1991.

The Gambling Community Benefit Fund contributes to the balance by enhancing the community organisations through provision of grants to these not-for-profit organisations. The funds that are collected by the Gambling Community Benefit Fund are collated from taxes that are imposed on all forms of gambling, with the exception of charitable gambling. Additional funds are derived from the Community Investment Fund which receives its income from the taxes placed on Golden Casket lotteries, wagers, keno and gambling machines.

The Gambling Community Benefit Fund maintains and assists a wide range of not-for-profit organisations, which therefore impact the community in a positive way by providing a range of resources. Gambling may have a wide range of negative impacts; however, it also has numerous benefits which directly impact your local community and sustains not-for-profit organisations that help community members. In 2007-08, the Gambling Community Benefit Fund distributed 2,305 grants, totalling $40,433,011to a range of not-for-profit organisations, providing services and resources to the local and wider community.
