Why are traineeships such a great opportunity for students?

A Traineeship allows you to gain a nationally recognised qualification by combining employment and training. You learn new skills in your workplace, and you are paid for it! Traineeships provide knowledge and experience relevant to your career and are completed part-time while you finish school.

Mainly designed for Years 10 – 12 students, they allow you to gain real-world experience (and get paid) and work towards a nationally recognised qualification, while completing your high school studies. Looks great on the resume and gives you a head start if you want to keep working with your venue while you go to university or continue working your way up in the hospitality industry.

What training and roles are available at Fielders?

We’re currently looking for some dedicated Year 11 students to join our school-based traineeship program, with the offer to work, earn and learn while completing your BSB30120 Certificate III in Business.

This qualification reflects the role of individuals in a variety of Business Services job roles and is a great all-rounder qualification for your future. Individuals in these roles carry out a range of routine procedural, clerical, administrative or operational tasks that require technology and business skills. They apply a broad range of competencies using some discretion, judgment and relevant theoretical knowledge. They may provide technical advice and support to a team.

Please note: Applications close Friday 17th June

What Do I Need to Know?

School-based apprenticeships and traineeships (SATs) allow high school students to work for an employer and train towards a recognised qualification, while completing their secondary schooling and studying for their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) or equivalent.

Students must gain support and approval from their school to undertake a SAT. Students continue to attend school as usual, however, some of their paid employment and/or training will become part of their school timetable. A SAT must impact on the student’s school timetable to be considered school based. The ATIS-048 Determining the impact on the school timetable information sheet provides further details.

The school, student, their parent/guardian, employer, and training organisation will negotiate a schedule which outlines when the student is at school, work and training. This schedule must indicate exactly how the SAT will impact the school timetable.

The student and the employer will select a training organisation (known as the supervising registered training organisation) to provide all training and assessment for the SAT. The training organisation will work with the parties to develop a training plan which outlines training needs, how and when the training takes place, who will provide the training, and how the training will be assessed. At CTA, our traineeship has a hospitality pathway so it’s the best of both worlds!

What are the advantages of school-based apprenticeships and traineeships?

There are so many great advantages to becoming a school-based apprentice or trainee, we’ve listed some of the more exciting benefits below for you.

  • Offers more flexibility and variety
    • The variety provided by SATs can have enormous benefits for young people who prefer hands-on learning to traditional schooling pathways.
  • A great head start to your career
    • Young people employed as school-based apprentices and trainees develop workplace skills, knowledge and confidence and have a competitive edge when applying for jobs. A SAT can lead directly to full-time employment once a student has left school.
  • Gain a nationally recognised qualification
    • All school-based apprentices and trainees participate in vocational training that contributes to a Certificate II, III or higher vocational qualification which can count towards the student’s QCE.
  • A fantastic opportunity to learn while you earn
    • School-based apprentices and trainees are paid while they learn workplace skills, gain confidence, and adapt to a work environment. It gives the student the opportunity to put skills learnt at school and the training organisation, into practice in a real work environment.
