As they say in legal terms “ignorance is no excuse” and this is certainly the case within the Hospitality Industry. As the onus now rests on Approved Managers, any non-compliance can result in multiple fines across the venue, some of which will come straight out of the Approved Managers pocket.

Approved Managers - RMLV TrainingAs we progress into the new year it is evident already that the recent changes to the Gaming Machine Act 1991, Gaming Machine Regulation 2002, Liquor Act 1992 and the Liquor Regulation amongst others is hard to keep up with.

As they say in legal terms “ignorance is no excuse” and this is certainly the case within the Hospitality Industry. As the onus now rests on Approved Managers, any non-compliance can result in multiple fines across the venue, some of which will come straight out of the Approved Manager’s pocket.

Amongst the changes have included Bottle Shop trading hours, sign in procedures, tax changes, guidelines on gaming equipment and the provision of water just to name a few.

Some of these changes have also highlighted the importance of venue staff to fully understand the conditions imposed on their license document, it is also recommended that this document is shared with staff to ensure they are also aware of conditions.

In today’s environment keeping up with change is easier said than done, there are so many variables that are also often aligned with interpretation however the onus is on the licensee to ensure full compliance with all legislation new and old and recent changes have certainly highlighted the large stream of information changes.
