Armed robbery at Surf Club

A surf club was robbed overnight after two men stormed the Caloundra business with a gun.

The men allegedly entered the Caloundra Surf Club and threatened a staff member with a gun before stealing cash and leaving on foot at around 8.30pm.

Caloundra Surf Club manager Ben Levesque said there were a number of patrons still at the club during the robbery.

“We’ve never seen anything like this before,” Mr Levesque said.

“We’ll probably reassess security…you can never be too careful.”

Police later found a 23-year-old Maroochydore man and a 19-year-old Ipswich man in the area and charged them with the armed robbery.

Mr Levesque said no one was hurt.

“If you have to look for any positives in this, it’s that it was all handled well,” he said.

The two men will appear before Maroochydore Magistrates Court today.
